Podcast Alert! TEFL Training Institute Interviewed Me About Racism

While abroad in Shenzhen, China, I worked for alanguage center teaching adults English as another language, and on occasion, U.S. and "Western" culture. During my two-year contracted employment I enjoyed the friends made, the unforgettable moments, and the fascinating aspects of Chinese culture like the food, language and history, but I also experienced some unpleasant situations that involved racism, and other prejudices such as classism, colorism, sexism and xenophobia.

The negative experiences were overwhelmingly uncomfortable, at times, but the insight gained about, not only myself, but another part of the world has matured me in ways that only life as a black American woman expatriate and solo traveler could have. And I am honestly thankful for that part.
A former colleague asked if I would share my thoughts and recollections from my two years experiencing racism in a professional TEFL environment. I did the interview less than six months of being back in the U.S. and in June 2018 the interviewer released the finished and polished off episode titled Racism In ESL (with Asia Martin).
